NAME: Michiru Kagemori
CANON: BNA: Brand New Animal
CANON POINT: Post-series
AGE: 18
BACKGROUND: https://brand-new-animal.fandom.com/wiki/Michiru_Kagemori#History
PERSONALITY:
IMPULSIVE - Both her most notable trait and her fatal flaw. If someone is in trouble, Michiru is the type to charge headlong into danger to save them, even if she doesn't always think ahead to how to save them, which can often put her own life at risk. She won't shy away from a verbal confrontation and speaking her mind against someone she disagrees with, too. Nazuna criticises her for this, accusing her of always acting before thinking and self-righteously trying to force her beliefs on other people, but Michiru does try to act with the best of intentions. COMPASSIONATE - As early as episode 4, Michiru regains the ability to turn back into a human, giving her the option to hide her so-called "beastman disease" and go back to living a normal life. However, she chooses to stay and learn more about beastmen, becoming gradually more invested in Anima City and the difficulties the people face there. She tends to sympathise with the plights of others, even if this sometimes makes her a little too trusting; this is in stark contrast to Shirou, who views all humans with suspicion and who uses extreme violence to deal with those he sees as betraying beastmen. From the first episode to the last, there are multiple instances where her intervention is able to temper Shirou's rage and brutality. Michiru's kindhearted nature is also shown in the second episode where she teaches children to read and write, then when she rescues them from being trafficked, and later in episode 5, where she helps a group of bears play baseball after she sees their impoverished conditions in the slums. PREJUDICED - Despite her innate empathy for others, Michiru has grown up in a society where beastmen are viewed as a brutal and dangerous "other" segregated from human society, and so she can be unintentionally bigoted. When she suddenly transformed into a beastman herself, she locked herself away in her room and eventually fled to Anima City to escape persecution. She refers to her condition as a "disease" until she finally learns the truth, and in other instances, implies that humans are morally superior to beastmen, even going so far as to declare she hates beastmen when she's almost trafficked in episode 2. Eventually, she is able to overcome this and realise those beliefs she was raised with were wrong, in the process also teaching Shirou to be less prejudiced against humanity as he bonds with Michiru. By the final episode, she decides to continue living as a beastman to learn about them from their own perspective. IMMATURE - Still a teenager, she can sometimes be childish in her interactions with others, such as when she makes fun of Shirou, or when she lets the other baseball teams' insults rile her up to the point she retaliates. Particularly in the early episodes, she can also be something of a whiner, though she matures as she adapts to life in Anima City. ATHLETIC - Michiru loves basketball, and she soon becomes the star player in a baseball team when she's roped into joining the Bears. She has a competitive streak and a drive to win, but she can also take losses like a good sport so long as the match was played at its best; she's horrified by the match-fixing and is eventually able to encourage her team to play at their best even if they're unlikely to win. LOYAL - Michiru is devoted to Nazuna and is shown to believe in her wholeheartedly, encouraging her to pursue her dreams as an idol. She'll do anything to help her if needed, and she's often shown thinking of her and their friendship even when they aren't on good terms with each other. She's also brutally honest with Nazuna in trying to protect her, telling her that she thinks Boris is creepy and wanting to stay together with her. Eventually, Nazuna realises she has a point, and begins to listen to Michiru's advice, showing the strength of their friendship despite their differing paths. OUTGOING - Michiru wears her heart on her sleeve, and her open honesty with all her extremes of emotion makes her easy to get along with and befriend. As well as her previously mentioned emotional impulses and quick temper, she just as easily shows affection to others. Nazuna seems jealous of her openness to other people, saying Michiru has always been able to make friends wherever she goes. Ultimately this ability to bring others together ends up being a help in protecting Anima City and getting the beastmen to work together in the final episodes.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Like the tanuki of folklore, Michiru has shapeshifting abilities that means she can transform her body. Her current power list is as follows:
Unlike Shirou, she isn't a particularly skilled fighter, but the nature of her powers means she's good at improvising in a pinch, which is often how her new powers tend to manifest as she needs them. (If the mods would rather she didn't gain any more animal powers beyond canon scope, please let me know and I'll limit them to what she already has rather than picking up anything new.)EXPANDABLE TAIL: To use as a landing cushion or hide herself and others. STRETCHY ARMS: She can elastigirl her arms out to long lengths. RABBIT EARS: Improved hearing. GORILLA ARMS: Improved strength. CHAMELEON SKIN: The ability to blend in to her surroundings and turn invisible, although her clothes are still visible. BIRD WINGS: Flight. RAPTOR EYES: Long-distance sight. CHEETAH LEGS: Improved speed. WOLF NOSE: Improved sense of smell, able to accurately track scents.
INVENTORY: Her phone, wallet, Silver Wolf necklace
MOONBLESSING: Iris.
